In order to get the most out of saffron, it is highly recommended to first grind the saffron threads into a fine powder (you could use a mortar and pestle, or simply break the threads using hand or a spoon), then soak the grinded saffron in a warm to hot water for at least 10 minutes. About Saffron

During the harvest season, which starts around mid-October, everyday hundreds of people get up before dawn to go to the fields and pick the beautiful delicate lilac colour flowers that have bloomed overnight. They must be picked before being exposed to too much sunshine. The flowers are then carried in wicker baskets to a processing areas where the stigmas are patiently removed by hand.

In the next step, saffron stigmas are gently toasted in order to dry them before they are tested, sorted and packed, insuring the full, unique and exquisite flavour, aroma and colour of this “vegetable gold” reaches the consumer.
